History of the Food Chain – from Agriculture to Consumption and Waste

The conference is arranged as a satellite to the 1st European Chemistry Congress. Its main topics are:

  • History of agricultural chemistry;
  • Veterinary aspects of food chemistry in historical perspective;
  • History of the chemistry of food and nutrition;
  • History of analytical chemistry, especially as related to the control of fertilizers, food stuffs, drinking water and mineral waters, and to the role played by chemical analysis in agriculture and the food industries;
  • History of environmental chemistry as related to food production and consumption.

The meeting will take place in conjunction with the "Workshop on Applications of Novel Technologies in Food and Biotechnology", organised jointly by EFFoST and the Nonthermal Processing Division of IFT. (Cork, Ireland,11 till 13 September 2006).

The GHI meeting will be held on the University College Cork Campus, on Sunday, 10 September 2006 from 4:30 - 6:30 PM conveniently ending shortly before the Welcome Reception of the workshop that will be held in the historic Staff Common Room at the same site, starting at 7:00 PM.

Workshop on Novel Technologies in Food and Biotechnology

The annual IFT-NPD/EFFoST Workshop will be held in Cork, Ireland from 11-13 September 2006, on the subject of novel processing technologies for food and biotechnology/pharmaceutical application. Examples of these technologies include application of high pressures and pulsed electric fields, to ensure product safety and extend shelf-life. The Workshop will include a strong mix of scientific, technical and commercial presentations, and represents a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the state of the art in this rapidly emerging field of processing technologies for food and other applications.

The 13th World Congress of Food Science & Technology “Food is Life”
