- Weiss in Basel discovers that by using china acid in feed the amount of secreted urea decreases. This gives rise to the introduction of some china acid preparations in medicine eg. sidonals (china acid piperazine) and urosins (china acid lithium)
- Heinrich Dreser adds acetylsalicylic acid to medicines under the name aspirin (acetyl + spir (acic acid) + in) (spiracic = the old name of salicylic)
