Professor Meinrat O. Andreae gives EuCheMS Lecture
Professor Meinrat Andreae will deliver the EuCheMS Lecture ‘The aerosolized biosphere – Recent insights into the chemical nature of biogenic aerosols’ at the 12th EuCheMS International Conference on Chemistry and the Environment on 15 June 2009 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The topic of Professor Andreae’s Lecture is very timely in view of the on-going problems of climate change caused by anthropogenic inputs of carbon dioxide, other greenhouse gases, aerosols and aerosol precursors into the atmosphere.
Meinrat Andreae is the Director of the Biogeochemistry Department and, currently, also the Executive Director of the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Mainz, Germany. Since 1976 he has conducted studies on the interaction of the biosphere and the atmosphere, with emphasis on atmospheric aerosols and trace gases. He collaborates world-wide with a sizeable number of scientific institutions. He is a member of the scientific steering committee of the international programme Large Scale Biosphere Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA), co-chair of the scientific steering committee of Integrated Land Ecosystem – Atmosphere Processes Study (iLEAPS) and head of the scientific advisory board of the High Altitude and Long Range Research Aircraft (HALO).
The EuCheMS Lecture honours outstanding achievements by a European chemist. It also serves to enhance the image of European chemistry and to promote scientific cooperation in Europe. It rotates among EuCheMS member societies and is delivered at a scientific event outside the lecturer’s own country.
